Auth0 vs Azure Active Directory (Azure AD): Which Single Sign-On (SSO) solution is better?

[ad_1]

Many businesses are turning to SSO solutions as they attempt to repurpose their cybersecurity strategies to meet the challenge of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, and the diverse needs of their staff. However, choosing the right solution isn’t easy – every business is different, and there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution.

Over 617,400 professionals have used Peerspot research to inform their purchasing decisions. Its latest paper looks at Auth0 and Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), two of the highest reviewed solutions in the SSO market.

Below is a brief summary of the report, highlighting what real IT Central Station users think of each solution – from their most valuable features, to how they’ve improved individual businesses, as well as what each solution could do better.

Auth0

An easily adaptable authentication and authorization platform

With an average rating of 8.3, Auth0 is one of the most popular solutions in the SSO market. Deployed largely throughout the comms services, financial services, and insurance industries, Auth0 is used by companies of all sizes, with 56% of reviewers employed by large companies with over 1000 employees. Midsize and small organisations account for 20% and 24% of reviewers respectively.

Users highlight how Auth0 remains easy to integrate irrespective of their chosen codebase and the benefits easy integration can offer from a security perspective. It also offers strong compliance measures, with much of the solution already certified by regulators such as ISO. Despite this, users believe that the solution remains quite highly priced in comparison to the rest of the market and could benefit from better machine-to-machine authentication flows.

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)

An enterprise identity service that provides SSO, MFA, and conditional access to guard against cyberattacks

Achieving an average rating of 8.7, Azure AD is another popular SSO tool used by businesses. Businesses in the computer software, comms services, and financial services are the most frequent users of the solution, alongside companies with over 1000 employees who make up 66% of reviewers. Small organisations with less than 200 employees account for 19% of reviewers whilst midsize organisations make up the remaining 15%.

The solution’s plaudits identify its scalability as one of the key features differentiating it from other options, and alongside straightforward installation, Azure AD offers one of the most seamless experiences in the SSO market. However, critics point out that the solution could be improved with more regular system updates and by offering legacy authentication protocols.
