Jamaica won the silver medal in the men’s 4×100 metres relay at the World Under-20 Championships at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia on Friday.

The Jamaicans, Bougie Nkrumie, Bryan Levell, Mark-Anthony Daley and Adrian Kerr, were in a good position for the first two legs, but faltered on the third, which was compounded by a poor final baton exchange.

The Jamaicans, however, had a good final leg by Kerr, who ran past several of his rivals to finish the race third. They were upgraded to second, after the initial winners South Africa, were disqualified for a lane infringement.

Japan benefited from South Africa’s error as they were awarded the gold medal in 39.35 seconds, the same time as the Jamaicans. The United States of America (USA), who had disastrous baton exchanges, won the bronze in a season best of 39.57 seconds, because of South Africa’s disqualification.

It was Jamaica’s 11th medal of the World Under-20 Championships, with four gold, four silver and three bronze.
