Weber State Holds Off UC Davis To Remain Undefeated


SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State Wildcats used their defense to hold off UC Davis and secure a 17-12 win on the road on Saturday night in Big Sky play.

Weber State’s Defense Makes Key Stops In Win Over UC Davis

Things got started with a 35-yard field goal by the Aggies, taking a 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the ballgame. Later in the first quarter, Bronson Barron found Josh Davis for a 16-yard touchdown to give Weber State their first lead of the game, 7-3 with 3:53 remaining in the opening period.

Dontae McMillan found the end zone on a six-yard run to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 14-3 with 13:46 to play in the first half. UC Davis made a 41-yard field goal midway through the second quarter and Weber State held a 14-6 lead at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Weber State made a 23-yard field goal to push their lead to 17-6 with 9:21 remaining in the third quarter. The Aggies scored their only touchdown of the game with 5:33 left in the third when Miles Hastings found CJ Hutton for a 19-yard score. Weber’s lead was trimmed to 17-12 after UC Davis failed their two-point conversion attempt.

Bronson Barron completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Josh Davis finished with 20 carries for 98 yards, along with one catch for a 16-yard touchdown. McMillan recorded six carries for 52 yards and a score. Jacob Sharp and Haze Hadley each caught six passes to lead the receiver group, while Ty MacPherson added five receptions for 70 yards.

Weber State improved their record to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big Sky play. They will have a bye next week and will return home to face Eastern Washington on Saturday, October 8. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm MT on ESPN+ and 103.1 FM “The Wave.”
