DENVER – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure would like the public to be aware of repair and maintenance work that could impact travel in a few locations and is advising alternate routes.

Emergency repairs to fully close E. 56^th Avenue from Peoria St to Peña Blvd

Emergency work is needed along E 56^th Avenue after construction crews making travel and safety improvements unearthed a sanitary sewer pipe in need of repair not a result of construction activities. While the pipe was working as intended, a hole had developed in the top of the pipe that crews fortunately spotted and can now address, ensuring a state of good repair.

Repair of the pipe will require the full closure of East 56^th Avenue from Peoria Street to Peña Boulevard for approximately one week – starting the morning of Monday, November 14, through Monday, November 21. Electronic message boards will alert people to the closure. Alternate routes are advised. Also affected, a stretch of Chambers from E 56^th Avenue to Maxwell Place (see map below).

Bridge Maintenance to Close Travel Lanes in Two Locations

Denver is paving the Havana Street bridge over Sand Creek this weekend, requiring crews to close Havana Street to travel in both directions between Florence Way and Smith Road starting tomorrow, November 11, at 6:30 pm through Sunday, November 13 at 7:00 pm

Maintenance crews will also be paving Quebec Street at the bridge over Cherry Creek, closing Quebec in both directions at approximately Cherry Creek South Drive for several hours on Saturday, November 12. At both locations, detours will be in place.

One Block of Champa Street Temporarily Closed for Removal of Rooftop Crane

A rooftop crane being utilized on the Colorado Convention Center Expansion Project is being removed from the job site as its work is complete, requiring crews to close Champa Street from 14^th Street to Speer Boulevard starting today through Tuesday, November 15, to ensure everyone’s safety. The crane has been helping set building materials into place as crews construct an 80,000 square foot multipurpose room, outdoor terrace, and other supporting spaces on the roof of the existing building. Two other cranes being used for the project will remain in place for the time being. The expansion project is on track to be completed by the end of 2023.
