Robert D. Underwood Jr.

RANDOLPH — Robert D. Underwood Jr., 75, of Main Street Extension, Randolph, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2022) at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.

Mr. Underwood was born July 21, 1947 in Jamestown, the son of the late Robert D. and Lucille B. Henry Underwood Sr.

Bob was a 1965 graduate of Randolph Central School and Embry Riddle Aeronautical and Aviation in Daytona Beach, Fla. A life time man of the sky, Bob learned to fly at an early age, having grown up flying with his father Bob Sr. at the Randolph Airport, currently owned by the Underwood family. He retired in 2007, as a Professional Airline Pilot, flying Commercial Jets, lastly for American Trans Air in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was a social member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181, Cardinal Hills Golf Course, The National Quiet Birdman’s Association and the Elibomwons Snow Mobile Club, where he was very active in maintaining and grooming the trails. He enjoyed Flying, Snowmobiling, motorcycling and golfing.

He is survived by three children, Scott (Zenaida) Underwood of Johnson City, NY, Daniel Underwood of Jacksonville, Fla., Lisa Underwood of Frewsburg, seven grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Ashlianna, Hayden, Jillian, Jaxson and Zaida, five great grandchildren, Alex, Anthony, Londyn, Jeremiah and Clayton, a brother, James (Pauline) Underwood of Charlotte, NC

The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, (Nov. 5, 2022) from 11 am to 1 pm from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at the Angus Hill Farms, Sale location on Torrence Road in Randolph, starting at 2 pm Condolences can be left for the family at www.vanrensselaerandsonfuneralhome.com, Memorials may be left in Bob’s memory to the Randolph Sports Boosters, RCS, 18 Main Street, Randolph, NY 14772 or any chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
