About 130 Republicans in Congress — including US Rep. Fred Keller, R-Kreamer, US Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard and US Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas — are right to ask the White House to take immediate action to increase drilling, including offshore drilling.
“It is time to unleash our nation’s vast energy resources and give the American people the relief that is desperately needed,” the letter said.
The letter, in addition to high gas prices and the Biden administration’s decision to release another 15 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserve, is in response to a decision by US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland to delay an offshore leasing schedule.
Republicans are correct to say that the “American people have suffered enough” due to the administration’s reluctance to allow more domestic drilling. They are correct when they identify this approach as “destructive.”
We need more drilling. We need more pipelines and more refineries. In the long-term we may need more renewable energy but as our families, friends and neighbors are struggling with higher heating bills and electric bills and paying more at the gas pumps, we need more domestic oil and gas development today.
We implore the White House to listen to reason and to listen to the Republican congressmen pleading for development of American energy sources.
We implore the White House to reconsider its hostility to the sources of affordable energy that work today, rather than its naive belief that solutions that might work in the future can work today.
