Museum, Auburn student-run podcasts join forces to discuss sneakers, sneakerhead culture

Notice body

Sneakers are no doubt a cultural landmark today, but for outsiders looking in, they may wonder how a type of shoe can grip a nation and the world so tightly.

The latest episode of “The Jule Museum Podcast” starts with the story of the 1990 Nike shoe spill, a story that inspired the museum’s exhibition, “Andy Yoder: Overboard.” Host Chris Molinski is joined by Associate Professor of English Charlie Lesh and Auburn student Imani Poole in this episode. Poole attends the “Sneakerheads” course conducted by Lesh, a course where the class has produced their own podcast that allows students the opportunity to create their own episodes and discuss their personal history with the footwear.

The latest museum episode not only offers personal insight into an ever-growing cultural phenomenon, but also links student engagement with the museum’s ecologically conscious exhibition. The episode is available at: jcsm.auburn.edu/category/watch-listen/ or wherever podcasts can be heard.

“Andy Yoder: Overboard” is on view at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University through April 1, 2023.
