Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Health Ministry is pushing for the utilization of the G20 Federated Public Trust Directory for enabling the verification of COVID-19 vaccine certificates at the entry points of all countries.

“It is targeted that the initiative can be implemented at the arrival gates of every country to make it easier to verify COVID-19 vaccine certificates, thus international travel activities will be safer and more comfortable,” expert staff for technology to the Health Minister and chief of the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) at the ministry, Setiaji, said here on Friday.

The Federated Public Trust Directory is a global framework that integrates various digital systems to verify documents using a trusted global network facilitated by the World Health Organization (WHO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Global Digital Health Partnership (GDHP ), and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The global network includes, among others, ICAO, International Air Transport Association (IATA), European Union (EU) Green Certificates, and Common Trust Network.

The official noted that so far, G20 countries are still using different systems to verify COVID-19 certificates, in accordance with the regulations in each country, thereby affecting the movement of overseas travelers.

This has led to difficulties in recognizing the vaccine certificate codes of travelers visiting a number of countries with different systems, he explained.

“Hence, the Federated Public Trust Directory initiative has been proposed, thus these networks can be integrated with each other to verify vaccine certificates or other health documents facilitated by the WHO and other international organizations,” he added.

The initiative evolved from various ideas and breakthroughs which Indonesia encouraged at the series of 2022 G20 Health Working Group (HWG) meetings, Setiaji informed.

The initiative was introduced by Indonesia at the Seventeenth Global Symposium and Exhibition on ICAO Traveller Identification Program (TRIP) on September 13–15, 2022, in Canada, which was attended by 197 state delegates, he said.

At the global event, he also talked about the benefits enjoyed by Indonesian people from the issuance of vaccine certificates in accordance with WHO and EU standards through the Indonesian Health Ministry’s PeduliLindungi app.

“We hope that what we convey at the ICAO TRIP Symposium and Exhibition regarding the results of the 2022 G20 HWG (meeting) 1 as well as the implementation of WHO DIVOC (Digital Infrastructure for Vaccination Open Credentialing) and EU Hub Standards in Indonesia can be applied more widely in the future,” the official added.
