‘Friends’ interactive murder mystery show to open at Counter Culture in South Philadelphia this fall

After success with a series of “Golden Girls” interactive murder mystery dinners held in Philadelphia earlier this year, Bensalem-based Without A Cue Productions is making its return to the city with another mystery for guests to solve.

From Oct. 28 through Dec. 18, South Philadelphia’s Counter Culture will host “Phriends — The One With The Murder,” an interactive murder mystery based on the classic 90s sitcom “Friends.” Guests will take part in a scavenger hunt and help look for clues while sipping coffee-themed cocktails and enjoying the show.

“Phriends” takes all six iconic characters on a trip to Philadelphia for the opening of “Fairmount Perk,” a regional coffee chain started by Gunther. However, the fun doesn’t last for too long after some drama stirs up between the friends and a few unexpected guests show up. Before the night is over, someone will be the victim of some friendly fire.

“We are so excited to finally be able to open ‘Phriends — The One With the Murder” after a more than two year wait,” said Traci Connaughton, founder and executive director of Without A Cue. “We are especially thrilled to be able to partner with Counter Culture on South Street to bring this uniquely Philadelphia-centric project to a Philadelphia-centric venue.”

“Phriends” marks Without A Cue’s third major production in Philadelphia. The production company first held its “Golden Girls” murder mystery dinners at Craft Hall in the spring, along with a series of walking murder mysteries throughout the city. While “Phriends” was sent to precede both of these shows in 2020, the production was cut short due to COVID-19.

Throughout the show, guests are encouraged to download an app on their phone that will allow them to take part in an interactive scavenger hunt. Guests can also enjoy cocktail service from Philly-based Pops McCann Whiskey, including beer, wine, and a coffee- themed cocktail while sitting at “Fairmount Perk.”

The venue, which features artwork from 50 Philly street artists, will be transformed to look like the classic 90s sitcom as guests try to solve the mystery.

Tickets are available now, with general admission tickets starting at $35. There will also be VIP tickets available for $75, which include preferred seating, one complimentary beverage, and a pack of six clues from each of the friends.

Guests can purchase individual clues from their favorite of the friends for just $5, or receive a phone call from Janice for $20.

For those looking for more themed murder mysteries, Without A Cue is set to open Red Rum, an interactive dinner theater at The Curtis in Old City. It is currently under construction and is set to open in January.
