A man has been charged in relation to an aggravated burglary that took place in Dundalk in the early hours of Friday morning.

Gardai arrested a man, aged in his 20s, after a reported break in to a house in Cox’s Demesne in Dundalk, where a woman was threatened with a hammer.

The incident occurred at 6.30am on Friday morning.

The man threatened the female resident of the property and left the residence with a sum of cash and car keys. Gardai say that no injuries to persons or damage to the property was reported.

The suspect fled the scene in the resident’s vehicle and after Gardai attended the scene, a man was arrested a short time later.

The man was detained at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He has now been charged and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning (Saturday, November 21, 2020).

The stolen vehicle has been recovered and has been returned to the owner.
