Ardee man Mark McAuley has been named in the Irish Show Jumping squad for next week’s Spanish Nations Cup competition taking place in Cadiz in Andalusia, southern Spain.
McAuley makes up part of the five man squad who will travel to the three-star FEI Nations Cup competition which begins on Friday November 27.
Michael Blake, who watched his team finish in a share for third at this week’s Portuguese Nations Cup, has selected an entirely new panel for the fixture at Vejer De La Frontera.
McAuley, who will be on Jasco VD Bischoff which he co-owns with Scea la Tuiliere, is joined on the team by Conor Swail, Cameron Hanley, Denis Lynch and Michael G Duffy.
Two of the horses competing for Ireland are bred in Ireland, including Duffy’s Lapuccino, which is bred in Meath by Cian O’Connor.
Millockstown jumper McAuley is currently ranked world number 72 in the FEI rankings. He was last in an Ireland squad in August when he was the star performer for the Irish Showjumping team as they finished runners up on the return of the Nations Cup in the Czech Republic, as Prague’s Chuchle arena hosted teams from around the world.
He was on Jasco VD Bisschop and produced two perfect clear rounds, the only Irish jumper to do so on the day as Michael Blake’s team finished in second place to the Netherlands.
