Gardai arrested a male driver in Louth Village after a vehicle exceeding the 60km per hour limit in Ardee failed to stop when officers requested him to do so.

The vehicle, an Audi with what Gardai describe as false registration plates, was detected by officers from the Drogheda Roads Policing Unit while driving through Ardee.

The vehicle was detected travelling at 83kmph, in the 60km zone.

The driver failed to stop and subsequently struck a Garda patrol car, causing a small amount of damage to the passenger door of the vehicle.

A chase ensued and the car was ultimately intercepted by Gardai in Louth Village.

No persons were injured during the course of the chase or arrest. Court proceedings against the driver have commenced.
