Darkness Into Light is returning to Dundalk this year – but not as you know it. The Covid-19 pandemic may have put paid to any chance of enjoying a 1,000-plus person 5k walk any time soon, but the local committee in Dundalk are bringing a unique idea to the town to raise funds for Pieta House.

On Saturday September 12, the Darkness Into Light committee host The Big Drive-In at the Marshes Shopping Centre.

With money raised going towards Pieta House and SOSAD Dundalk, everyone is invited to a drive-in sunrise move screening.

“While we can’t walk together we will continue to raise much needed funds and awareness in any way we can,” the committee said. In 2019, there were Darkness Into Light walks in Dundalk, Drogheda, Ardee and Dunleer.

There will be a €10 cover charge at the gate, with all proceeds raised going towards the suicide prevention services at Pieta House and locally to SOSAD Dundalk.

SOSAD  offers assistance to those who are considering suicide, who have attempted suicide, and also to the family and friends of those who unfortunately end their own lives.

They provide an emergency phone support service 24 hours a day from each branch, suicide interventions, psychological or suicide risk assessments and free one to one counselling, along with practical support, awareness events and community suicide prevention programs. The SOSAD number is 041 984 8754.
