Woman receives serious injuries in Dundalk M1 single vehicle collision

Garda are at the scene of a traffic incident at Hunterstown.

A women aged in her 30s has been taking to hospital with serious injuries after a single vehicle collision on the M1 just outside Dundalk this morning.

The driver of the vehicle, the single occupant of the car, was taken by emergency services to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda after the road traffic collision which occurred at 11.10am.

The collision occurred between Junction 16 and 17 of the M1, just south of the town. The road northbound remains closed this afternoon as Forensic Collision Investigators are currently at the scene.

Local diversions in place. There have been major delays around Dundalk and on the N52 this afternoon following the crash, while there have been major tailbacks on the M1.

 The closure of the M1 northbound remains in place between the Dundalk exits – 16 and 17 – as of 6.30pm. AA Roadwatch say there’s a 10km queue stretching from before J16 onto the N52 Inner Relief Rd to Barrack St, taking almost an hour to travel. It’s also very heavy iinto Dundalk town on the Dublin Rd (R132) from before DkIT, and on the Ardee Rd (R171). Avoid the area if possible.

Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing for any witnesses, or any road users who may have dash-cam footage, who were traveling in the area to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
