A highly sensitive and confidential Garda document containing information on five people allegedly involved in the Drogheda feud has fallen into the hands of criminals linked to one side of the violent and bitter gangland dispute.
Gardai in Drogheda now fear a major escalation in the feud after the document – which includes personal information and photographs of five people, including one woman – fell into the wrong hands. A Gardai investigation has been launched, the Irish Independent report, but senior figures do not believe the leak was intentional or malicious.
The newspaper claims that the document, which has partially been leaked, contains information on ‘lower-tier’ members of the anti-Maguire faction, as well as details on female associates of some of the members involved.
A source close to the investigation said it was a “serious matter” which was “causing a headache for Gardai.” It is believed a photograph of the document, as opposed to a hard copy itself, has fallen into the hands of the criminals.
It is also unknown as to whether Gardai are providing extra security for those mentioned in the document, or whether they consider their lives to be at risk at this present time. If Gardai believe there is a real and serious risk to someone’s life, they issue them with a GIM form to notify them of the said risk.
