The results of the second count in the constituency of Louth are in. We are still stick on two candidates – Imelda Munster and Ruairi O Murchu – elected to the new Dáil Éireann as it stands.
However, there has been considerable movement after Imelda Munster’s surplus of 5,425 were distributed among the remaining candidates. Ged Nash picked up a hefty 1,065 transfers from Munster moving him up to third in the polling on 6,889. Speaking to LouthNow.ie earlier in the evening, Nash had confirmed his team were expectant joy would arrive via that route.
He usurps Fergus O’Dowd who took only 357 transfers from Munster to put his tally at 6,737. With transfers from John McGahon to come, he will likely enjoy another boost but whether it will be enough remains to be seen.
Among the other contenders at this point, Mark Dearey got 695 transfers from Munster while Peter Fitzpatrick got 430 to take his tally to 6,515.
People Before Profit’s Audrey Fergus received a huge boost from the transfer of Munster’s sizeable surplus. She received an extra 1,197 from Munster’s transfers taking her tally to 2,317.
The transfers of Sinn Fein’s Ruairi O Murchu are now being counted.
