Ambulance services and Gardai responded to an incident involving a vehicle and a cyclist on the slip road off the N33 Link Road in Ardee at approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.

A man in his 60s was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. He was not seriously injured. The collision occurred at the junction of the slip road and the N33 Link Road.

Ardee Municipal District councillor Jim Tenanty told LouthNow.ie this morning of his concerns over safety at that junction. He has previously labelled the junction a “dangerous black spot.” Currently, vehicles can cut across oncoming traffic in turning right.

Last year, Tenanty tabled a motion requesting that Louth County Council ban cars from making that right turn, instead being forced to turn left towards the roundabout and back southwards along the N33. In response, the council said they would implement a ban on right hand turns from the Castleguard slip road. However, that ban has not since been implemented.
