A Lithuanian woman was quizzed by Revenue officers on Tuesday after officers seized approximately 12,000 cigarettes in a raid in Co. Louth.
The search, under warrant, of a residential property in the county uncovered the cigarettes with an estimated retail value of over €7,600.
The haul represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €6,000. The cigarettes, found with the assistance of detector dog Bill, were branded ‘Minsk’, ‘NZ’ and 1,69′.
The woman was questioned and Revenue say investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
The seizure was part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
