The 2018 season ended less than 24 hours ago – but already Dundalk FC know when they’ll be beginning their 2019 campaign as the Football Association of Ireland have revealed the start dates for next season.
Dundalk completed a league and cup double by beating Cork City 2-1 at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon to claim the FAI Cup for the second time under Stephen Kenny.
Sean Hoare and Patrick McEleney both scored headed goals in either half to clinch the victory in front of just over 30,400 spectators at the Lansdowne Road venue. Both players will likely be involved once again when Dundalk and Cork meet in yet another season opener – the President’s Cup.
That game is schedule to take place on either Saturday February 9th or Sunday February 10th, with the SSE Airtricity League campaign to begin on the following Friday (Febuary 15th).
Drogheda United, who lost out to eventual promoted side Finn Harps in the playoff semi-finals, will kick off their second successive season in the First Division a week later on Friday (February 22nd).
The EA Sports Cup Final is due to be played on Saturday September 14th and the 2019 FAI Cup Final is scheduled for Sunday November 3rd.
The mid-season break will run from Saturday June 15th to Thursday June 27th. The fixture list for the new 2019 season will be released on Wednesday, Decmeber 19th.
