All Gardai holiday leave has been cancelled between August 12th and August 19th as the Fleadh Cheoil comes to Louth.

Gardai officers in the Louth Division will not be permitted to take annual leave days during the festival as Gardai prepare to welcome 400,000 visitors to Drogheda for the annual festival.

Speaking at the latest meeting of the Joint Policing Committee, Chief Superintendent for Louth Christy Mangan confirmed the move as organisers ramp up preparations ahead of the first of two consecutive Fleadh Cheoils to be held in Drogheda.

“We want this to be a fantastic occasion for Louth,” Mangan said, whilst also confirming that based on reports from previous Fleadh festivals held in other parts of the country, the event is not one that requires as much policing action as other large scale events.
