Here’s all the details for Friday’s Ardee Xmas lights switch on

We’re just over 24 hours away from the annual switching on of the Christmas lights in Ardee – and with Santa Claus confirmed to make an appearance, little ones and their parents are getting very excited.

Like last year, Castle Street in the centre of town is expected to be lined with people to mark the official start of Christmas and the festive season as a whole in Ardee.

Over the last week or so, there’s been lots of work done on installing lights throughout the town, up and down the main streets and on shop fronts and buildings – but the main attraction is always the Ardee Castle lights being switched on. We understand Santa Claus himself will be doing the honours once again this year.

ThisIsArdee.ie understands that Santa Claus and his reindeer will arrive into Ardee shortly after 6pm on Friday evening before the man himself will be chauffeured through the town with a little help from the Ardee Gardai and Ardee Fire Service. Safety first!

He will then stop at Castle Street at 6.30pm and meet-and-greet all of the boys and girls before the lights on Ardee Castle and around the town are switched on. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early and experience the atmosphere building before Santa and his helpers arrive.

There’ll be treats and goodies handed out to all of the children who attend the evening, as Santa and his elfs will take some time to meet-and-greet before the switch-on. Brian Farrelly returns to MC the event once again.

The switching on of the lights in Ardee this year will coincide with The Late Late Toy Show being broadcast on RTE One later in the evening.

The Ardee Traders & Business Association hope that young children in Ardee will be able to enjoy Santa’s visit and the switch on of the lights before going home to stay up a little later than usual and enjoy the annual festive extravaganza, hosted by Ryan Tubridy.

Motorists are advised that traffic restrictions will be in place for the duration of the event, with local Gardai on hand to divert traffic and assist the public.

The main road through Ardee will be closed to through traffic for a short period, approximately between 20 and 30 minutes in the evening.
