Ardee St Marys had more reason to celebrate on Wednesday evening as two of their young stars – Carl Gillespie and Donal McKenny – were named the 2017 Louth GAA Under 15 and Under 17 Players of the Year.
At the Louth GAA Coaching and Games Development Squads Awards Night held at Darver Centre of Excellence on Wednesday night, the teenage Ardee St Marys duo were awarded for a stellar 2017.
Both players played key roles for their club Ardee St Marys this year, with McKenny and Gillespie starring as the Marys Minors won the league and Championship double in sensational circumstances.
McKenny reprised his role at centre half back for his county as they embarked on their first ever Leinster Under 17 Championship in the summer.
He received his Louth GAA Under 17 Player of the Year gong from new Louth senior boss Pete McGrath last night.
Gillespie has had a busy year. As well as starring for the Minors in their historic triumph, he also helped fire the Marys Under 16s to a league success and a Championship final.
He did that whilst turning out for Louth’s Under 15 development squad.
On Wednesday night, he received his award from Louth Minor manager Wayne Kierans.
The winning duo are also hoping to end the year with Lennon Cup success. Ardee Community School still harbour Lennon Cup hopes, with both players involved as St Cillian’s have impressively progressed through to the semi-final stage.
Two great lads, well done Carl & Donal ?
