The Christmas lights in Ardee will be switched on Friday, December 1st – with the streets in the town set to be lined with people for the arrival of Santa Claus into the town to do the honours as the festive season officially gets underway.
ThisIsArdee.ie understands that Santa Claus and his reindeer will arrive into Ardee shortly after 6pm on Friday evening before the man himself will be chauffeured through the town, as ever, by Ardee Fire Service. He will then stop at Castle Street at 6.30pm and meet-and-greet all of the boys and girls before the lights on Ardee Castle and around the town are switched on. Exact times are subject to change.
Brian Farrelly is expected to return this year as the master of ceremonies for Santa’s visit and the lights switch on.
The switching on of the lights in Ardee this year will coincide with The Late Late Toy Show being broadcast on RTE One later in the evening. The Ardee Traders & Business Association hope that young children in Ardee will be able to enjoy Santa’s visit and the switch on of the lights before going home to stay up a little later than usual and enjoy the annual festive extravaganza, hosted by Ryan Tubridy.
Motorists are advised that traffic restrictions will be in place for the duration of the event, with local Gardai on hand to divert traffic and assist the public. The main road through Ardee is expected to be closed to traffic for a short period, approximately between 20 and 30 minutes in the evening.
