The fatal crash happened shortly before 1am on Friday July 21st. Margaret McGonigle (69) from Castlereagh in Bruckless Co. Donegal, daughter Mairead Munday (39) and her friend Rachel Battles (37), both from Ballyloughan in Bruckless, died instantly in the crash at Aclint Bridge.

The women were travelling on the N2 in wet conditions on the way home from Dublin Airport, having landed back after a family holiday in Turkey earlier in the evening. Two cars were involved in the collision.

Speaking after the incident in July, Ardee Gardai Superintendent Fergus Treanor said, “It was a very substantial accident. It was a tough scene. The road was wet but it wasn’t raining at the time of the accident. Later, weather conditions deteriorated horrendously with very heavy rain at the scene.”
