Independent councillor Jim Tenanty has suggested the prospect of turning some vacant land south of the old McCabes Garage site at the Glebe in Ardee into a public car park – to try and alleviate the issue of all-day parking in the town.

The councillor has brought his idea to Louth County Council and asked whether it would be possible to take out a compulsory purchase order on the area, directly across from the Malone Oil site on the Tallanstown Road.

“It would an ideal location for a car park,” he told ThisIsArdee.ie this week. Tenanty is proposing that daily commuters can park their cars there and walk the short distance to the bus shelter in the south bound lane of the N33 Link Road, between the two roundabouts.

He feels this would take parked cars away from the town centre, and especially the Fair Green area, which would leave spaces available for shoppers or those wishing to use local amenities such as the playground for example. Louth County Council are believed to be keen to engineer a solution in relation to the all-day parking issue in Ardee.

What do you think of Tenanty’s idea? Would you park your car at the proposed new car park if it came to pass?
