Fine Gael councillor Dolores Minogue wants to see funding allocated to have the popular Railway Walk in Ardee upgraded and extended.
“With extra funding made available through the recent Budget for greenways, I will be making a request to have the line upgraded and extended,” Minogue told ThisIsArdee.ie. “This walk is used by many young and old walkers and cyclists and while it is in good condition, more can be done including seats, a picnic area etc.”
“At present the nearer you get to Dromin the path is not paved and this needs to be done, it’s a fantastic facility which we can develop further,” she continued. “And now with the wastewater plant being upgraded, this will also make the Railway Line more pleasant to use.”
Minogue added that the Railway Walk also promotes healthy living and environmental benefits for the area. “Greenways protect important habitat and provide corridors for people and wildlife,” she said.
As part of last week’s Budget, Minister for Transport Shane Ross announced investment of over €30 million in the development of greenways to bring tourism benefits to regional locations, in a move that would also promote sustainable commuting by cycling or walking.
