Ardee Rugby Club continued their perfect start in Leinster League Division 3 on Sunday, as Cathal Bradley led the team’s scoring in a 49-20 home rout against Athboy.
Coming off the back of a battling away win to Swords two weeks ago, the Townparks side returned home hoping to continue their impressive start as they seek to bounce back to Division 2B at the first time of asking.
Athboy arrived at Townparks looking for their first win of the campaign, having been on the wrong end of two heavy defeats on their previous outings.
The home side were boosted by the return to competitive first team action of former coach Ronan O’Brien.
The 25-year-old centre had been unavailable for selection in the new campaign as he sat out a suspension following his departure from previous club Boyne RFC.
Following on from his two tries last time out, Bradley – playing on the wing – put in an impressive performance, scoring four tries, as his pace and trickery proved too much for the visitors on Sunday afternoon.
Last season’s breakthrough star Jason Monaghan scored a brace to add to Bradley’s haul, while Mikey Kelly capped an impressive team display, breaking through to add his name to the scoresheet.
Having scored 15 points against Swords in Round 2, the ever reliable Ben O’Brien successfully kicked all seven conversions, contributing 14 points to Ardee’s 49 game total.
The result leaves Ardee at the summit of Division 3 with a perfect three-from-three record.
Ardee will be hopeful of extending their winning streak when they host County Kildare side Clane RFC next Sunday. Clane have struggled this campaign, failing to register a win in their opening two games.
