Ardee man Vinny McCoy has been named as one of the speakers at the TedX Drogheda event to be held next month.
Vinny, who is very well known locally, will take to the stage at the Droichead Arts Centre on Friday November 3rd, where he will be sharing his views on how school is sometimes not the answer and how your vision defines who you are.
This year’s TedX in Drogheda is the second such event to be held in the town, following on from a first ever talk last year. In 2017, speakers at the event will explore the theme of private lives and identity, and discuss whether it’s influenced by culture, technology, art, social media, and fashion or whether it’s fixed forever – and the same for everyone.
McCoy is part of an eight strong speaker line-up for the event which also includes Keith McEvoy, Colin Guilfoyle, Brendan Murray, Janie Lazar, Sarah Archer, Caradh O’Donovan and Alan Costello. Talks tend to last between 10 and 15 minutes.
Vinny is a long term member of Drogheda Toastmasters, having joined in 2006. He competed in the Toastmasters International Public Speaking finals last year, having come through competitions in Drogheda and regionally. He also won the national finals in 2013 and to compete in the Ireland and UK finals in England later that year.
In 2015, Vinny won the speech contest at the Toastmasters International Speech and Evaluations Competition at the Boyne Valley Hotel. Vinny was in the Irish Army for 23 years before leaving to set up his security firm in Ardee, Meridian Security Ltd, which he runs alongside sons Shane and Barry.
Standard tickets are now on sale costing €30 and concession tickets are also available at €15.
