After a very successful first weekend of competition of the cross country season last time out, athletes from Ardee & District Athletic Club were back in out in force this weekend as North East Runners and DKIT hosted day two of the Louth Intermediate & Uneven Juvenile championships on Saturday.
Abbie Sheridan followed her gold medal performance last weekend to storm home and win the 4,000m, taken on by Intermediate women and Under 17 and Under 19s girls. Abbie was joined in the race by cross country newcomer Bernie Balfe, who finished a very impressive fourth.
Leo Farrell took on the task of the men’s 8,000m course and ran very well himself while there was also lots of involvement in the younger age groups too. Under 9s’ Jessica McCarron did well competing on the 600m course. For the Under 11, Gabrielle Ruskyte competed well in the 1,500m.
There was a a medal win in the Under 11’s 1,500m as Arthur Sands and Jack Dowdall came seventh and eigth respectively closely followed by Jayden Clarke & Dylan McCarron to claim a bronze team medal. Charlie Sands narrowly missed out.
The Girls narrowly missed out following suit in the U13 2,500m as Samantha McCarron came eigth overall followed by teammates Orlaith Carolan, Ava McNally & Ruth Gillespie. In the final race of the day, Emma Gillespie (Under 15s) took on the 3,500m course and ran well.
Next week, Ardee & District Athletic Club will be sending athletes to the juvenile cross country races in Bush hosted by Glenmore Athletic Cub.
