Leinster’s Under 18 girls got off the mark in the 2018 Interprovincial Series on Saturday afternoon, as Ardee RFC’s Tess Meade featured in a 22-5 win over Ulster at North Kildare RFC’s Kilcock Grounds.
Coming after last week’s narrow 14-17 defeat at the hands of Munster in Ballincollig, this weekend Niall Neville’s team were the better side. Ulster had themselves come off a fine opening round 37-12 win over Connaught and started brightly in Kildare, leading in the first half thanks to Amanda McQuade’s try.
Two tries from Navan’s Molly Fitzgerald put Leinster in control by the break. After half time, Ciara Carbery went over before replacement Anna Doyle produced a brilliant try, duly converted by Natasha Behan.
Meade, from Lobinstown, was one of Leinster’s standout performers last weekend and again she helped repel Ulster attacks as they looked for a way back into the game. Lining out at number 8 in the back row, Tess was joined in the starting XV by Dundalk RFC’s Niamh Belton and Meadbh O’Callaghan.
The Ardee Rugby Club player was also in the Leinster U18 panel for the 2016 Introprovincial Series, where she was joined by clubmate Aine Reilly.
