Ardee Rugby Club’s Tess Meade played a starring role for Leinster’s Under 18 girls side on Saturday afternoon but she couldn’t prevent her side from slipping to a narrow 17-14 defeat against Munster.
The meeting was part of the first round of the annual Interprovincial series and Niall Neville’s team will have a chance to bounce back this coming Saturday when they face Ulster at North Kildare RFC’S Kilcock grounds.
Meade, from Lobinstown, went close to running the try line in the early stages for Leinster but she and teammate Ali Miley were denied by some strong Munster defending. After a quick tap penalty, a converted try did put the visitors in front. Despite Munster replying, Megan Burns’ try was converted Natasha Behan to hand Leinster a 14-7 lead at the break.
As the rain fell, Meade – who lined out at number 8 in the back row – helped repel Munster’s charge but it couldn’t last. They scored a try and conversion before Ciara Clancy’s late penalty proved the difference. Dundalk RFC’s Meadbh O’Callaghan and Zoe Valentine were also involved for Leinster at the weekend.
