Gardai in Ardee are investigating today after a pipe bomb attack occurred in Ardee overnight.
Officers say an I.E.D was left at a house at The Orchard, off Hale Street an subsequently denoated shortly after 12.45am. The device exploded but no one was injured in the attack. Damage was caused to the exterior of the building and some nearby cars.
A technical examination took place at the scene earlier on Wednesday. Gardai are appealing for anyone with any information to contact the Station in Ardee on 041 685 3222 or call the Garda Confidential Line ion 1800 666 111. Superintendent Fergus Treanor appeared on LMFM this morning appealing for witnesses.
“The investigation is in it’s very early stages. Obviously we look at the motive behind this and the reasons these people were targeted. This is a serious incident in the Ardee area. Anyone who was in that area last night between 12am and 1am in the morning, we’d appreciate them contacting us in Ardee.
“We deal with these kind of instances often. We will deal with them confidentially,” he said on this morning’s The Michael Reade Show.
This is the second pipe bomb attack to occur in the area in the last month. An attack happened at a house in Shanlis on August 31st. Again, no one was injured. Speaking to ThisIsArdee.ie this morning, Ardee Municipal District councillor condemned the attack. “It is very disturbing to hear reports of the incident overnight. You don’t like to see this type of crime committed in this area, or anywhere else. I hope if anyone knows anything they can assist the local Gardai.”
