Gardai in Ardee are urging locals not to leave items of value in clear sight in their vehicles after a smash-and-grab incident in the town on Saturday night.

Officers were called to the Fair Green yesterday evening after a car parked on the Golf Links Road has it’s front passenger window smashed in. A handbag was taken. The vehicle used in the incident is believed to have been an 03 registered maroon coloured BMW. The car pulled up alongside the parked vehicle and carried out the theft.

The victims were a family who had been enjoying an evening at the playground on the Fair Green. Upon returning to their car from Apache Pizza, they found the passenger window smashed and bag taken.

Gardai say people should not leave items of value in parked vehicles but if they must to secure them safely in the boot. Anyone with information on the incident are asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222 or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
