Three women have been killed in a three car collision that happened just north of Ardee in the early hours of this morning.
The women – aged 37, 39 and 69 – were all occupants of the same car and died in the horror crash at Aclint Bridge on the N2 between Ardee and Carrickmacross at approximately 1am this morning.
A man, believed to have been travelling in the same car, has been critically injured. He alongside another man who has travelling in a second car have been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with serious injuries. One of the men is understood to be a 65-year-old man. Two occupants of a third car involved in the collision were not seriously harmed.
The N2 between Ardee and Carrickmacross will be closed for the remainder of the day as Gardai carry out forensic technical examinations. Diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 687 113 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111.
This tragedy takes to five the number of people who have been killed on the N2 north and south of Ardee in 2017. In January, cousins Kathy McDonald and Josie Duff died south of Ardee after disembarking a bus at the Hunterstown Inn.
