The fixtures for the opening round of the Louth GAA Football Championship have been announced – with local rivals Sean McDermotts and John Mitchels clashing in Tallanstown next Friday night in the Anglo Printers Junior Football Championship.
Last year’s finalists Ardee St Marys begin their quest to end their 22 year wait for Senior Football Championship success when they face St Josephs in The Grove in Castlebellingham on Saturday, July 7th – in the second game of a double header that also sees Newtown Blues play Kilkerley Emmets.
Holders Sean O’Mahony’s are the third and final team in Group 1 alongside the Marys and the Joes but they must wait a week to get their Championship campaign underway.
Intriguingly, there’s huge local interest in Group 4 of the Anglo Printers Junior draw – and all eyes will be on Tallanstown on Friday, July 7th as Sean McDermotts, John Mitchels and Westerns are all in action.
The first game of the double header sees the Seans and the Mitchels face off at 7pm which is followed by Westerns clash with Wolfe Tones at directly after 8.15pm.
Hunterstown Rovers begin their CTI Business Solutions Intermediate campaign in Stabannon also on Friday night. They face St Fechins at 8.15pm, hoping to replicate at least reaching the last four in 2016.
The opening game of the Louth GAA Championship series takes place on Thursday July 6th as Glen Emmets take on Stabannon Parnells as the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda. Before all that, all local sides have one more round of league games to play this weekend before attentions can turn to the Championship.
Championship group games will be played on three consecutive weekends in July, with the knockout stages pencilled in to begin in August.
