A country music night will take place at The Hunterstown Inn this Thursday night (June 29th) to coincide with the arrival of the 24 Marathons 24 Days into Ardee earlier in the day.

Shane Finn, the Kerry-based runner who has embarked on the extraordinary effort, will run from Castleblayney to Ardee (26.2 miles) on Thursday on day eight of his 24 day consecutive days of marathons.

Local man Peter Landy is – in his capacity as national chairperson of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland – heavily involved in the event and has spent the last number of days following Shane around the west of Ireland as his mammoth undertaking began.

On Thursday, Shane ran from Donegal town to Mullaghmore in Sligo before he ran from Ballina to Castlebar on Friday. Saturday afternoon saw Shane complete leg three of 24 Marathons 24 Days – by running from Ballinrobe in Mayo to Eyre Square in Galway.

To celebrate Shane’s arrival into Ardee on Thursday, Peter and his daughter Hannah have organised a benefit night at The Hunterstown Inn for Thursday evening, an opportunity to raise money for Shane’s efforts for the association and let off some steam with one third of the marathon total complete.

Among the artists slated to perform on the night include Matt Leavy, Eddie Quinn, Noel Briody and Ray Murtagh, whilst a host of guests will also be taking the stage during the night.

There’ll be finger food and a raffle on the night, with doors opening at 8.30pm. Tickets cost €5 and can be purchased upon arrival. For more information, you can contact Peter Landy on 087 2 555 801.

Speaking to ThisIsArdee.ie this week, Landy said, “Over the years, we have always received great support from the people of Ardee through our church gate collections and street collections and we’re really hoping that people will come out and support Shane as he finishes the first third of his epic journey in Ardee.”

Between now and his finish in Ardee on Thursday afternoon, Shane will take in Ballinasloe, Roscommon, Athlone Town, Longford Town, Cavan and Monaghan. He is scheduled to finish his 24th marathon on Saturday July 15th at his home in Dingle, Co. Kerry – when he will have completed 629 miles in total.
