Gardai in Ardee are investigating after the Lidl supermarket on the Dublin Road in Ardee was broken into in the early hours of Monday morning (May 29th).
The break-in occurred at around 2am at the supermarket premises but nothing was taken in the raid. Gardai responded between 2.15am and 2.20am. The culprits entered via the canteen window to the north side of the building at the back. Then, they managed to gain access into the adjoining office but efforts to break into the safe failed. Some damage was caused in the incident.
Officers from Ardee Garda Station are investigating CCTV from the premises and from other businesses in the area in a bid to identify those responsible. Gardai believe at least two people were involved.
The attempted burglary comes exactly a week after the MACE store on Hale Street in Ardee was broken into. On that occasion, a large quantity of cigarettes were stolen.
Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area in the early hours of Monday morning to contact Ardee Gardai Station on 041 687 1130 or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
