The third annual Oran’s Foundation 5 mile run will take place in Stanannon on Sunday June 11th, with participant sign up now open.

Oran Neacy, who turns six years old today (Happy Birthday Oran!) was born in 2011 with multiple disabilities. The Oran Foundation was established in 2015 with the aim of fundraising for Oran and other children with multiple and complex medical needs.

The foundation’s terrific fundraising work in 2015 helped them with their initial aim of purchasing a modified vehicle for Oran and also contributed to the Jack and Jill Foundation too. Money raised this year will go towards purchasing hoists for Oran to be used around his home. A donation will also be made to one of Oran’s Foundation’s charity partners.

Originally from Stabannon but currently living in Ardee‬ with his mother Emma, Oran is schooled in Dublin due to his complicated medical requirements and must undergo a huge number of hospital appointments. It is a scenario that many children, parents and families nationwide must go through.

So far, fundraising has helped to buy the modified vehicle that enables Oran to be transported around with ease and starting with last year’s fundraiser, enough money is now being raised annually to help other children with multiple disabilities and more complex needs. Last month, DKIT selected Oran’s Foundation as one of their charity partners for the Dundalk 10k.

The foundation have already held race sign up sessions in Drogheda, Dundalk and Ardee. Online registration is now open at PopUpRaces.ie and it costs €15 per adult to enter. Under 16s can register for free. The race is an A.A.I apprved event and is fully chipped. Everyone who takes part gets a medal and there’ll also be children’s races and fun on the day.

On day registration starts at 10am and the race begins at Stabannon National School at 12pm. For more information, check out the Oran Foundation Facebook page. Last year’s event took place on a gloriously sunny day in Stabannon and you can view all of our photos from the day by clicking here.
