Details have been announced of the upcoming Bank of Ireland Expo to take place in the old church on John Street next Saturday, May 27th – with former rugby player and TV pundit Brent Pope among those set to be in attendance.

The Bank of Ireland Expo will take place next Saturday in the surrounds of the beautiful former church – with up to 100 local businesses displaying their products and services at the Enterprise Town expo, the second such event to be held by the bank in Ardee.

The event will feature businesses, community groups and sports clubs and will take place between 11am and 3pm. Taking place on the same day as the An Post Ras stage finish in Ardee, organisers hope that the day as a whole will help showcase all that is great about the town – and they urge locals to come out, take part and support enterprise and initiative in the Ardee.

Popular RTE rugby pundit Brent Pope will come to Ardee as the keynote speaker and there’s much more happening besides. Aidan Magennis, of Louth’s 1957 All-Ireland winning side, will cut the ribbon to officially open the event at 11am before Ardee Concert Junior Band perform and local baritone James McCreanor also performs a couple of songs. Carol Leavy’s School of Dancing will also be showcasing their moves too.

Paul Farrell – centre – is among the speakers at next week’s event.

Inside such a stunning venue, Bank of Ireland Ardee manager David Dowling hopes the acoustics should be “unreal” for that particular performance. Paul Farrell of Ardee’s Farrell Furniture will take to the stage to have a chat about his career in business while Ardee Rugby Club and Ardee Cycling Club will be in attendance too.

So too will the pupils from Scoil Mhuire na Trocaire who will be presented with their awards for their Dragon’s Den-esque Bizworld pitches given to BOI staff this week. There’ll be tea and coffee, pizza from Apache Pizza, bouncy castles for the kids and the Irish Military War Museum will be back exhibiting their tanks too. LMFM will also be broadcasting from the event.

The Irish Military War Museum tanks will be back at this year’s event.

Not exclusive to Bank of Ireland customers, the event is open to all to exhibit and free to all visitors. Anyone who would like to enquire about exhibiting or having a stand can call David Dowling on 087 400 0571.

Bank of Ireland is investing in excess of €1.2 million in its Enterprise Town initiative in 2017. Following the success of the Enterprise Town Programme in 2016, which involved 100 communities across the country, Bank of Ireland will hold over 120 Enterprise Town events nationwide this year.

“The event is on the same day as the An Post Ras, which should bring in a large following in its own right,” Dowling said this week. “This is a fantastic opportunity to show case what is good about Ardee not just locally but nationally .

“We are shining a spotlight on Ardee and showcasing what we are good at in Ardee,” he told ThisIsArdee.ie. Church owner Brian McNally has offered use of the old church gratis for the event.

In 2015, Bank of Ireland Ardee held an Enterprise Town event in Ardee Parish Centre with Mairead McGuinness, Mick O’Dwyer, Richie Towell and Gavin Duffy among those who were special guests.
