United Park in Drogheda will be the venue for a big Ardee soccer derby this weekend – as Square United and Ardee Celtic’s Under 12 girls will contest their DCSL Cup final with just one thing guaranteed – the cup will be coming back to Ardee.

Square’s young girls – who are in their first season of competition and are the club’s first ever all-girl team – made the final after beating Walshestown 2-1 at College Park back in April, thanks to goals from Ciara Martin and Mischa Rooney.

The game kicks off at 11.30am, with Ardee Celtic’s Under 14 girls also in action in their own Cup Final earlier in the day at 10am at the Windmill Lane venue. Ahead of the big Under 12 game, Square United’s young players were given a boost by a video produced by the club with well wishes from a host of personalities from across the game.

The video, which you can view below, features Liverpool legend Steve Nichol, Drogheda United assistant manager John Gill, Dundalk midfielder and Republic of Ireland underage international Georgie Poynton (Poynton is currently on loan at Bohemians) and Irish Independent chief football correspondent Daniel McDonnell as well as former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland international Stephen McPhail, women’s international Diane Caldwell and ex-England cap Paul Mariner as well as others.

Square’s Under 12s are no strangers to the United Park pitch either, having already taken to the field there at the recent SSE Airtricity League clash between Drogheda United and Bohemians.

The Ardee Celtic Under 12sgirls have finished their season as league champions and the opportunity to get one over on their local rivals to complete a memorable double will be one they won’t want to pass up. They qualified for the showpiece final by virtue of beating Termonfeckin way back in February.
