Aoibheann Carolan made it four from four for Ardee & District Athletic Club at the North Leinster qualifiers for the 2017 Schools Track & Field Championships on Wednesday – qualifying for the provincial finals and joining four young club mates in the process.

Representing her school – Dundalk St Vincent’s – Aoibheann was competing in the junior girls shot put on day two of the qualifying in Santry, after last Wednesday’s first day of qualifying events.

The sole competitor this time around for the Ardee club, she finished in the top eight after three throws – securing an additional three throws. That turned out to be enough to see her through.

Despite throwing a metre below her personal best, her throws were good enough to see her rewarded with a silver medal and ensure a smooth passage into the all Leinster finals next week.

There, she will join Ardee & District athletes Abbie Sheridan, Conor McMahon and Jonathan Commins who will be representing Ardee Community School. The trio all qualified in last week’s Day One of qualifying.

Last week, Aoibheann finished fifth in the junior girls javelin competition.
