Ardee Gardai investigate Stabannon assualt

Ardee Gardai are appealing to the public for information after a pensioner was assualted in an attempted robbery near Stabannon last week.

The incident occured on Thursday afternoon last, at around 4.30pm when two males driving a silver Volvo S60 pulled into the victim’s yard in the townload of Rock between Ardee and Stabannon claiming to be ESB employees.


The assailants began checking the area of the yard and adjoining house but the owner became suspicious. He locked up his home and began to walk away down a laneway before being knocked to the ground and having his pockets searched, Gardai say.

Nothing was taken in the assualt and the men then drove off in the direction of Stabannon village. Anyone with information on the incident are asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222. This article was amended at 2.53pm on Tuesday April 25th. 

A silver Volvo S60 was used by the assailant.
