Attack victim TJ Duffy remains in critical condition

Local man TJ Duffy remains in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked in Carrickmacross town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 21-year-old suffered serious head injuries in an altercation which took place shortly before 4am on Main Street in Carrickmacross. TJ had been enjoying a night out in Fiddler’s Nightclub. He was attacked just yards away from the nightclub entrance at the Paddy Power bookmakers.


After being taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital initially, Ardee man TJ was transferred to Beamont in Dublin where he has undergone surgery on a clot on his brain.

The prime suspect in the incident is a man in his 20s who fled the area on foot through an alleyway. Sources say the suspect is from outside Carrickmacross and local Gardaí are expeceted to make an arrest over the attack. It is understood he knew the victim.

TJ is a Dundalk IT student and a keen GAA player, lining out for Sean McDermotts GFC. The Seans match against Naomh Malachi scheduled for Sunday was postponed after the attack.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone who may be able to identify the attacker. On a busy night in the town, there were a lot of people around the Main Street Carrickmacross area between 3.30am and 4.15am on Saturday.
