Ardee St Marys, Westerns GFC and Hunterstown Rovers will all be represented at Croke Park on Saturday as three Ardee based players have been named in Colin Kelly’s starting XV for tomorrow’s Allianz League Division Four final clash with Tipperary.
As expected, Kelly has reverted back to his full strength outfit for the clash at GAA headquarters and that means recalls for John Bingham, Tommy Durnin and Ryan Burns after the trio sat out last week’s win over Sligo. Promotion from Division Three had been secured a week previously – when the Wee County came away from Semple Stadium with a four point win over Tipp.
Now, the two promoted sides meet at Croke Park and Louth will he hoping to replicate their last success there fom twelve months ago. Then they beat Antrim 3-12 to 1-14 in the Division Four showpiece. Both Westerns’ Durnin and Hunterstown forward Burns started that game, with the Rovers man scoring 0-04, whilst Bingham was an early substitute – before having to withdraw himself after receiving a black card.
This year, Durnin and Burns have been first choice picks throughout the camapign although the latter missed the final two games of the Division Three group stage first through illness and then as Kelly shuffled his pack. Bingham has had to work his way into the manager’s plans but has done so in recent selections and he will look to stay in his manager’s starting XV thoughts going into the summer.
Despite missing the last two games of the group, Burns has enjoyed a prolific campaign in Louth red thus far. He has scored 3-17 – matching his tally from his debut league season in 2015 when he notched 1-23 for Louth in a season they were relegated fom Division Three. In 2016, he scored 1-22.
Adding to that at Croke Park tomorrow could lead Louth to more silverware and set them up for a creditable Championship assault.
Mattock Rangers man and Louth captain Adrian Reid has also been named in the side.
