A 46-year-old Tyrone man charged with causing the ‘Ardee Hay’ incident that led to significant damage to properties on Bridge Street on September 28th last pleaded guilty to careless driving at Trim District Court earlier this month.

The defendant, Mark McCrabbe, with an address of Sion Mills, Strabane admitted damaging ESB property, failing to stop after the incident and other related charges whilst pleading guilty to Section 52 – a charge of Careless Driving. The charge was reduced from dangerous driving on plea of guilty by the defendant.

At a previous hearing in Ardee District Court on January 17th, Mr McCrabbe said he would challenge the assertion that he drove dangerously in causing the bales of straw on the back of his lorry to collide with an ESB pole whilst driving into the town at 6.45am on the morning in question.

Mr McCrabbe was ordered to make a charitable donation of £500 to Meath and District Drug Rehabilitation. The case was heard on Thursday March 9th.
