Gardai arrest 18-year-old in Ardee baby probe

Gardai investigating how a 10-week-old baby girl sustained serious, life-threatening injuries in Ardee earlier this week have arrested a man in Dublin.

Gardai have confirmed than an 18-year-old was arrested earlier today in Dublin on suspicion of assualt and he is currently being held at Dundalk Garda Station.


The baby is in a critical condition in hospital in Dublin where her 16-year-old mother and family members maintain a vigil.

The infant suffered broken bones and a very serious head injury after the incident which is believed to have occured on Bridge Street in Ardee on Monday night. The two-and-a-half month old, born on New Years Eve, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda before being later transferred to Dublin for specialist treatment.

Gardai were on Wednesday and Thursday investigating a number of lines of inquiry into the incident but today’s arrest is a significant development in the case. A technical examination had earlier been carried out at the baby’s home, an apartment on Bridge Street in Ardee.
