This time tomorrow night, dancers representing both John Mitchels and Stabannon Parnells GAA clubs will be readying themselves to take to the stage for the Strictly Rivals event, where they will dance against each other for local bragging rights. Of course, neither club could wait until Saturday to get the first dig in.

All this week the two clubs have been attempting to out-do each other by posting endorsements from some high profile celebrities, including former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne, current Newstalk presenter George Hook, Eurovision favourite Johnny Logan and comedian Rory O’Connor (Rory’s Stories).

The list of celebrity well wishers continued today when two footballing stars added their support – former Wales and Celtic striker John Hartson, and current Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick.

Not content with finding their own celebrities, the Parnells went one further by convincing Nicky Byrne to switch his allegiance to the Parnells, much to the amusement of their supporters.

We won’t attempt to conclude which club has won the initial battle, but the feud continues tomorrow night at the Nuremore Hotel for the sold out Strictly Rivals event.
