RTE Sport presenter Darragh Maloney will be among the judges at this weekend’s John Mitchels GFC and Stabannon Parnells Strictly Rivals event at the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross.
Maloney, who anchors the broadcaster’s live soccer coverage as well as commentating on GAA for TV and radio, will join fellow judges Anita Halpenny and choreographer Gavin Guigley as they rank and rate all 20 couples who will take to the stage to try and win bragging rights for their club.
The presenter has recently been following the progress of his RTE Sport colleague Des Cahill on RTE One’s Dancing With The Stars but on Saturday night will get a chance to see the finest dancers that Mid-Louth has to offer as rival couples from each club will compete against eachother in chosen dances hoping to score enough total points to earn their team the tag of Strictly Rivals champions.
Anita Halpenny takes her place on the judging panel having already had the experience of taking part in the Strictly Come Dancing held for Ballapousta National School in 2012.
Gavin, who runs the Born2Perform stage school in Carrickmacross, is no stranger to running the rule over wannabe Strictly contestants and having worked tirelessly with all 40 dancers over the last two months, he will be keen to see the fruits of everyones labour come good on Saturday evening.
No secret has been made of the deep-seated rivalry between the two local clubs and this event – a slightly different take on the popular Strictly Come Dancing format – will see these players, club members and supporters of both teams engage in what is surelytheir biggest encounter to date; testing not only their stamina, agility and fitness but their rhythm, style and moves off the field.
In a twist on the traditional format, 40 dancers will take to the stage, 20 each representing the Mitchels and the Parnells, and pairs will go head-to-head against eachother, doing their very best to win over the votes of the audience and judges – as well as having to go a step further and win the dance-off for the club they are representing. LMFM’s very own roadrunner Pat O’Shaughnessy will be the night’s MC.
