A host of local primary and secondary roads will undergo improvement works this year as part of Louth County Council’s Road Works Programme 2017.
The list of roads which have been earmarked for improvement were outlined at last Thursday’s Ardee Municipal District committee meeting. The draft list, which includes 15 local primary and secondary roads (these are roads designated as ‘L’ roads), was passed at the meeting and now goes forward to Louth County Council’s March meeting for full approval.
The biggest job on the list to undergo improvement works will be the 1.4 kilometre Anaglog to Ballapousta road (LS-525216). Also set for works is the Pepperstown Cross to Bailybaile road which will be finished to completion in 2017 and the 3.7km stretch between Reaghstown and the Mills of Louth. The work on these roads will involve black top paving, surface dressing and restructuring.
Of the 15 strong list of roads, there are two regional roads included for work – one of which is the R169 between Daly’s Cross just north of Collon and Dunleer. This work will only invove surface dressing.
Cathaoirleach Dolores Minogue welcomed the news of the funding for the roadworks. “There’s more work that could be done but it’s great that we’re getting this much done,” she said. “It will make life a lot easier.”
