Today – Thursday March 2nd 2017 – is World Book Day Ireland. All over the country, school pupils have been encouraged to get stuck into books, whether it’s a favourite or something new altogether.

To celebrate, the kids of Ballapousta National School today held a special fun filled day as the pupils of dressed up as their favourite book characters – including Harry Potter and Snow White – and enjoyed a whole host of literary activities, quizzes, paired reading between senior and junior classes,

They also spent time designing new book covers while teachers also dressed up and swapped classes for part of the day too. Some lucky pupils even walked away with prizes for best dressed in each class.

The members of the school’s student council thought that it would be a good opportunity to use the day as a fundraiser for the Ardee Hospice – and in doing so raised a brilliant sum of €314.15.

The kids put lots of effort into creating their own colourful cheque and Una Woods and Joan McGee from Ardee Hospice were on hand to accept it.

“Thank you to the children and teachers in Ballapousta N.S. who presented a cheque to Ardee Hospice Homecare this morning. Thank you for the coffee. Lovely morning,” Una said.
